The Witels

March 2019

The Witels Kloof is buried deep within the Hex Mountain Range, South Africa.

A Very strict and regulated permitting system(for good reason) meant we waited two years for our chance to explore the area. After hiking up to spend a night in the upper mountain hut, we descended down the steep gradient into the otherworldly canyon below.

Sadly bad weather cut our trip short but our highlights package included some of the more pristine sections of river, so we were told!

Many of the sections are so narrow you have to swim through them. In order to keep the gear dry, we used a number of sealing options to float our bags across the water

The water is icy at best and its a fine balance between moving fast enough through these sections while staying warm when out of the water
